By sanctified , June 5, in Windows. I was wondering. Is there any way to integrate a system wide spell check function to Windows 7 like the one in OS X and Ubuntu?

Other than that I don’t know of any. It’s difficult to do as each windows program that has a text field can implement it in different ways. It just lacks a spell check. I know this isn’t specific to your question, but Abiword is a slimmed down opensource office kinda app, I use it for quick note tasking, and comes with full dictionary, spellchecker and language support. Oh, and its only 8mb. Yeah, that’s what I used on Ubuntu. Seems like I have to use it again.

I always seek to use built in OS apps and Im surprised that W7 does not has a basic functionality as system wide spellcheck. Your query got me thinking that’d be cool. Seems to work okay but is a little clunky. It does inline check, but suggestions have to be retrieved from the systray icon. That sounds extremely clunky, specially since W7 hides all systray icons besides the system ones. I know that behavior can be modified, however it-s not an acceptable solution.

Thanks a lot however. I just found that there’s a “spelling window” that you can pop up off the tray icon which monitors what you’re typing and if it finds a misspelled word turn the text red and then you can click and find suggestions.
