Log in or Sign up. It takes forever to boot. Upwards of a minute. I have identified the cause to be the kionix free fall sensor. With it disabled in device manager, the system boots well under 10 seconds. In fact, if I disable it in device manager and then re-enable it, it takes almost 30 seconds for device manager to recognize the change.
I don’t particularly care about it as I use SSD devices but I’m trying to determine if it is a driver issue that can be fixed or if I have a defective unit. I’m very picky about these because I tend to keep them for less than a year and upgrade. If its defective, I want Dell to send another unit.
So my main question is, do other AW17 R3 users have this problem? My AW17 R2 does not have this probem. If I’m the only one, then I will get Dell to fix it. Here is what I have tried to see if I can get it working under any scenario. Every effort has ended with the same result. Again my R2 has no problem. Thanks so much, N. Nyceis , Oct 4, Congratulations on your new system, sorry I don’t have any idea about your issue. If you don’t mind answering in this thread, what screen did you opt for and it is a standard matte style, ie no glass bezel or does it have one?
Docsteel , Oct 4, Thanks- good info! My 17r3 boots very fast from a cold start or a restart in windows like 10 seconds I have noticed it boots very slow if I came from the bios, like a full minute or so. Not sure if that means anything just something I have noticed. J , Oct 5, I have contacted Dell and they are sending a replacement system.
Tech support agreed it is not normal and sounds like a defective sensor on the motherboard. Nyceis , Oct 6, I’m guessing its a bios issue that needs addressed in the new bios.
J , Oct 6, That’s interesting. If you disable the Kionix free fall sensor in device manager, do your reboot times go back to normal? I downgraded to A00 and the problem persists, can you try that? I notice you mentioned A1 in another post; did you have A1 as opposed to A0 when you first got your system?
I had A0 and upgraded to A2. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD. I will test for you later if I can find time today, got a couple very busy days at work coming starting today.
