I think this missing driver may be contributing to an issue with the PC’s ability to connect to the internet at full strength. I am using an Encore Wireless Router in the upstairs portion of a home and the wireless signal reaches as far as the office downstairs but the the connection is very slow.

Just says the signal strength is low. Is there a way strengthen the signal from the router or from the Linksys Wireless adapter on the computer its brand new. Sorry this is a question 1a and 1b scenario. Thank you in advance! If you go in device manager, click on the pci simple communications controller, go in property and then go in details.

Got to the following website and enter the Vender and Device code and it should tell you what the device is. Simple communications could be Audio, Modem or even the security features on an Intel chipset. I was under the impression that if you go to the Dell website, it’s got some nifty widget that detects your system and tells you what you need If you are not exactly sure what a piece of hardware is you can google the first few parts of its hardware ID and figure it out that way.

Yes there is and I attempted to use this tool, however, it only provided me with the Ethernet Controller and Graphics card driver updates. Not sure why it excluded this one in particular. I used a tool called Unknown Device Identifier also, to figure out which drivers were missing and it’s still showing that the PCI Comm, Controller is missing a driver.

I’m not sure if this missing driver will have anything to do with the low signal strength I am getting from the wireless adapter, but that is the main problem I am facing.

Edit: once you use the auto-detect tool, you’ll need to switch to another machine and then switch back. It won’t let you view other drivers that aren’t listed once you use the tool.
